A wonderfully rustic stone home built centuries ago has landed on the real estate market in Rifton, New York, for $2.49 million.
But don’t let appearances fool you – while it might look vintage on the outside, the inside is beyond chic and looks like it was ripped out of the pages of a recent Architectural Digest issue.
It also hides more than a few surprises.
“Introducing The Rifton, a fully restored and masterfully renovated 1876 stone residence perched above the Walkill River between Kingston and New Paltz, in the hamlet of Rifton, NY,” the listing on Zillow.com says.
“Over the years The Rifton has served as a church, a town hall, and the batiment canards for a local duck farm, and the current incarnation beautifully preserves this spirit of gathering and community throughout all the living, entertaining and work spaces spanning over 6,000 square feet.”
The restored inside is a soft combination of “wabi-sabi modernism” and country sophistication with its “perfectly imperfect details like exposed beams and bedrock ledges, original stone walls and pine floors, and antique doors layered in timeless patina,” the listing describes.
There seems to be unexpected features around every corner of the four-bedroom, four-bathroom house including:

There is also a “storage cave,” a space referred to as The Tower, which is the former church steeple.

Rifton is about 90 miles north of New York City.
