Man wins big in Washington lottery — then celebrates with Starbucks coffee and muffin

A Washington man has played Powerball for years without making any big wins.

The Edmonds resident used numbers that were important to him, like birthdates and anniversaries, Washington’s Lottery said in a Monday, Oct. 10 news release.

But this time, when he scanned his ticket using his lottery app, he realized he won $50,000.

The man went straight to his wife with the winning news, then to Starbucks for a coffee and muffin.

He plans to give some of the money to his niece so she can buy a new car. He also wants donate money to “local relief organizations.”

Powerball costs $2 to play. The odds of winning a $50,000 prize are 1-in-913,000, the lottery said.

Edmonds is about 20 miles north of Seattle.
