A man chopping down trees died when one fell and hit him, Connecticut police said.

State troopers responded to a home in Colchester around 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 4 for a medical emergency, state police said in a news release.

Once on the property, troopers found a 52-year-old man “unresponsive in the woods behind the residence,” police said.

The man and his brother had been cutting down trees in the woods when a falling tree hit him, police said.

Medical personnel responded and the man’s family was notified of his death on the scene, police said. Foul play is not suspected.

Police identified the victim as Jody Fellows.

When contacted by McClatchy News, a spokesperson for the Connecticut State Police did not provide any updates on the incident.

Colchester is about 25 miles southeast of Hartford.

Sixty-four people were killed in Connecticut as a result of tree-related incidents over the 15-year period between 2004 and 2019, according to a study published in the American Journal of Forensic Medicine and Pathology in December 2021.
