A car ran a red light late at night in St. Louis, causing a wreck that killed four and injured four more, police told news outlets, and the driver they say is responsible didn’t stop.

A Chevrolet Impala crashed into a Chevrolet Tahoe driving in downtown St. Louis, near the Saint Louis University campus, at about 2 a.m. Feb. 26, KMOV reported.

The collision caused the Tahoe to smash through a guardrail, veer off a bridge and land roof-first on the ground below, according to the TV station.

Four people died in the crash, the Associated Press reported. Four survivors, all ages 18 and 19, were taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Impala drove away from the scene, police told KTVI, and accident reconstruction crews are investigating.

McClatchy News reached out to St. Louis Metropolitan Police for more information, and did not receive a response Feb. 26.
