Jackpot win won’t change NC man’s routine. ‘Will still go to the same hamburger place’
A North Carolina lottery player hit the jackpot — but at least one thing won’t change for him.
“It’s nice to win but we will still go to the same hamburger place that we always go to,” Richard Jones of Raleigh told the North Carolina Education Lottery.
Though Jones is staying loyal to the burger joint, he said his $100,000 prize will let him “help the world a little bit.”
Jones plans to donate some of his winnings to his daughter’s nonprofit organization, which helps abused animals. He also hopes to go on a trip to Jekyll Island in Georgia, according to a July 19 news release.
Jones got richer after stopping at a Han-Dee Hugo’s convenience store in Raleigh. While at a Creedmoor Road location, officials said he tried his luck on a scratch-off ticket for the Millionaire Maker game.
It turns out, the ticket Jones bought for $30 was worth much more. He kept $71,259 after taxes.
It’s not the first time a lottery player has stuck to their routine after scoring a big windfall. Last year, officials reported that a South Carolina man discovered he won and went right back to work, saying he hoped to “retire eventually.”
