70-year-old wife wins lottery jackpot in Michigan. Husband had ‘a few choice words’
After a Michigan man won $10 playing a lottery game, he asked his wife to buy him another ticket.
“While I was getting his ticket, I decided to buy two Double Win Wild Time tickets for myself,” the 70-year-old Genesee County woman told Michigan Lottery officials.
Her decision paid off big, according to a Sept. 5 news release from the Michigan Lottery.
“The first ticket wasn’t a winner, but when I scanned the second ticket, I got a message I hadn’t seen before,” she said, per the release. “I got to better lighting, and looked over the ticket and saw it was a jackpot winner.”
She had won $452,886 while at a sports bar, officials said, but she wasn’t sure if she could believe her eyes.
“I went to my husband and asked him to tell me if I was reading everything right,” she recalled to lottery officials. “When he looked at the ticket and realized it was a jackpot winner, he said a few choice words and then we started celebrating with everyone at MoJoe’s.”
The woman plans to use her prize money to pay off her house, share with family and book an Alaskan fishing trip for her husband and son, according to the release.
The winning ticket, which cost $10, was sold Aug. 17 at MoJoe’s Food and Spirits in Davison, a suburb of Flint.
