Friends of more than 30 years play Powerball together — and win big prize in Michigan
Two friends of more than 30 years are each planning to buy a new home and a new car after winning a big Powerball prize to share, according to Michigan Lottery officials.
The friends began playing the lottery together several years ago, according to an Oct. 2 news release from the Michigan Lottery. As the “Dave and Pam lottery club”, they purchase games together and commit to sharing any prizes.
Recently, the duo spent $10 for five chances in the Aug. 26 Powerball drawing.
After the drawing, the club representative got a call from their friend, according to the release.
“He told me he had some big news for me and that I needed to sit down,” the club representative told lottery officials. “After confirming several times that I was seated, he told me we had won $1 million on our Powerball ticket.
“I couldn’t help but start yelling and cheering!” the representative continued. “He had to bring the ticket over to my house to prove that he wasn’t playing a joke on me.”
The friend wasn’t kidding — they really had won a $1 million prize, officials said. The lottery club matched the five white balls with numbers 20-22-26-28-63.
Their winning ticket was sold at Wild Bill’s Tobacco in Livonia, part of the Detroit metropolitan area.
