Man checks his winning lottery ticket 10 times — then locks the doors of his truck
In disbelief of his lottery win, a Michigan man continued to check his ticket — over, and over and over.
It was a new lottery game that paid off in a big way for the 47-year-old from Kent County, who purchased a $5 Fire & Ice Cashword game from a convenience store in Grand Rapids. He said he usually plays the $2 Cashword game, but opted for the higher-priced one instead.
He scratched off the ticket when he got back in his truck. There, he realized he’d just won $300,000.
“When I revealed the sixth red word, I checked the ticket over at least 10 times before taking it back into the store and scanning it,” he told lottery officials. “When the ‘file a claim’ message came up on the lottery machine, I walked back to my truck, locked the doors, and drove straight home to put the ticket in a safe spot.”
The $300,000 ticket is one of three jackpot prizes offered in the game. There are also 10 $10,000 prizes.
The winner said he’s “always dreamed about” what he would do if he won the lottery. Now, he plans on paying off his home and investing.
“It feels like a dream that it happened!” he said. “I’m still having a hard time believing it’s real.”
