A lucky lottery player won $20 from a game and used his prize money to buy another ticket in Washington.

Then he scored $250,000 the game’s top prize.

The man from Lynnwood snagged a Holiday Countdown Scratch ticket from a 7-Eleven in Woodinville during his lunch break, Washington’s Lottery said in a Nov. 28 news release.

He put the ticket in his lunchbox and went back to work.

At the end of his day, he got in his truck, took the ticket out and scratched it, lottery officials said.

That’s when he saw “one of the numbers on the last line of his ticket matched one of the winning numbers,” officials said in the release.

He told lottery officials he was in disbelief as he rushed back into work and had his boss double-check his ticket.

The boss confirmed he won the game’s top prize.

The man called his wife and she told him to sign the ticket and pick her up so the two could claim the prize, officials said.

Now they have plans to use the money to see their friends in Montana.

The winner also told lottery officials he wants to buy a home, pay off debt and put some money toward his granddaughter’s medical expenses.

Holiday Countdown costs $10 to play.

Lynnwood is about 15 miles north of Seattle.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.
