A Pennsylvania man has died after officials say fireworks exploded in his garage.

Around 10:15 a.m. on June 30, authorities responded to a home in Union City for reports of an explosion, according to WJET.

The explosion was firework-related, first responders said, according to the news outlet.

Michael Cross, 55, was working in his garage when the explosion happened, The Tribune Democrat reported. Neighbors helped pull Cross away from the fire.

Cross was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the Erie Times-News.

Pennsylvania State Police and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating the incident.

Union City is a 125-mile drive north of Pittsburgh.
