Dog with ‘charming underbite’ waited 100 days in shelter. Then a family fell in love
A dog with a “charming underbite” spent more than 100 days in a shelter — then a family fell for him.
“Odie has been adopted by an amazing family,” the Florida shelter wrote Aug. 27 in a Facebook post. “The instant connection and love they had for one another was remarkable.”
The Humane Society of Tampa Bay shared the heartwarming update after Odie experienced a rough patch. He had been adopted but returned to the shelter when the home wasn’t the right fit.
“His adopter’s health required them to be away often, and Odie prefers not to be left alone for long periods,” the shelter wrote in a past social media post. “Now, he’s looking for a loving home that can spend plenty of time with him — whether that’s going for long walks, enjoying playtime with friends, or simply being around to keep him company.”
Odie is described as a “loyal and loving” dog who craves human attention. He has a umbilical hernia, a condition that can cause part of a pup’s belly to protrude but often doesn’t impact their health, according to the VCA Animal Hospitals’ website.
“With a charming underbite and a non-reducible umbilical hernia, Odie has a couple of quirks that make him even more unique,” the shelter wrote, adding that he would ideally be the only dog in his next home.
Then, after months of waiting, the shelter shared the good news that Odie was matched with loving new owners. Several Facebook users cheered for the dog as he got a fresh start.
“The Hernandez family understood Odie’s needs and was excited to go home and start their life with him,” the shelter wrote.
The humane society didn’t immediately share additional details with McClatchy News on Aug. 28.
