Lottery player always told wife he was going to be rich. Then he wins big in Maryland
A man’s “hunch” led him to a huge lottery win in Maryland, officials said.
The great-grandpa got a “lucky feeling” that grew so “strong” he had to stop at a Severn liquor store to buy a scratch-off, according to a Sept. 16 news release by the Maryland Lottery.
He had no idea the look of the $20 Millionaire’s Club ticket that caught his eye would land him the top prize of $1 million, officials said.
The man scratched the ticket in his car, revealing he’d won the grand prize with the very first line, officials said.
Then, he called his wife, the release said.
“I said, ‘Are you sitting down?’” he told his wife, according to the release. “I just won $1 million.”
Although his wife was also “blown away” by the win, she told officials her husband always knew he was destined to be rich, officials said.
”He always said he was going to win and be a millionaire one day,” she told lotto officials.
The lucky winner went back inside the store to confirm the win, officials said.
The cashier verified the huge prize after scanning the ticket and “they all celebrated,” the release said.
He plans to use the money toward home improvement and to buy a new car before saving the rest, officials said.
This win means there are four $1 million top prizes left to be claimed, officials said.
Severn is about a 15-mile drive southwest of Baltimore.
