An Iowa lottery prize will allow a grandmother to honor her late husband in a special way — and pick up an old hobby.

The retired postmaster didn’t hesitate when asked what she would spend her $50,000 prize on. Lisa Johns, 66, is buying a Harley-Davidson trike motorcycle in honor of a “favorite pastime” she shared with her husband, who died two years ago, she said, according to a news release from the Iowa Lottery.

“We were avid riders, and when he passed away, he had a motorcycle and I gave it to my son,” the winner from Creston told officials. “That’s what he wanted, that was his wishes.”

Johns’ win was the first of eight jackpot prizes available in the In the Money scratch-off game, lottery officials said. She purchased her $5 ticket at a Casey’s convenience store in Creston.

She claimed her prize on Sept. 24, meaning she’s one step closer to purchasing a Harley.

“I can’t wait,” she said. “We have a big group that we ride with and I haven’t gotten to do that for years.”

Creston is about a 70-mile drive southwest from Des Moines.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
