Lottery player buys $50 ticket — then wins life-changing prize in Idaho. ‘Surreal’
A lucky lottery player bought a $50 scratch ticket from a truck stop in Idaho and ended up winning a life-changing prize.
He won $1 million.
Alexander Higbee stopped at Jack’s Travel Plaza in Arco on his way home from work one day, the Idaho Lottery said in an Oct. 8 news release.
“I stopped into Jack’s to buy a few lotto tickets, Powerball, Mega Millions, and thought, I’ve got some extra cash, so I picked up a couple of tickets,” Higbee told lottery officials.
The man from Mackay also bought some more pricey tickets, including a $20 ticket, a $30 ticket and a $50 Millionaire Maker scratch ticket, lottery officials said.
Higbee ended up winning $300 off the $30 ticket.
He then checked his $50 ticket and saw he had won $1 million. It was a “surreal moment,” he said.
Now, he has plans to use his prize money to pay off his debt, buy a new vehicle and help his family, lottery officials said.
He claimed his big prize in Boise.
Arco is about a 190-mile drive east from Boise.
