An Iowa man was stunned when he saw how much he won on a scratch-off lottery ticket.

Luke Hummell was shopping for groceries at a Walmart in Fairfield when he spotted a lottery ticket with a familiar Christmas movie on it, lottery officials said.

It was the new $5 ELF scratch-off ticket, according to a news release from the Iowa Lottery.

“It’s one of my favorite Christmas movies,” Hummell told lottery officials.

He took the ticket home and scratched it that night. That’s when he discovered he won the top prize of $50,000.

“I had a small freak-out. I’m like, there’s no possible way,” Hummell said.

He claimed his prize Oct. 29. He said he plans to do some work on his car and save the rest and relax.

“It relieves a lot of stress,” he said. “If I want to go on vacation, I can go on vacation. I don’t have to worry anymore.”

Fairfield is about a 110-mile drive southeast of Des Moines.
