A woman’s decision to take her friend’s advice landed her the “biggest prize of her life,” Maryland officials said.

A few years ago, the loyal lottery player decided to start buying Fast Play tickets after her friend said it had a higher chance of winning, according to a Nov. 6 news release by the Maryland Lottery.

She started winning here and there but had no idea she’d soon land herself the top $30,000 prize, officials said.

After scanning her ticket, she saw the screen say “Visit Lottery,” leaving her full of “excitement,” officials said.

“I knew I won big,” she told lottery officials.

The lucky St. Mary’s County woman said the win came at the “perfect time” as she’ll use it to pursue more treatments for a health challenge she’s been facing, officials said.

The woman who’s been playing the lottery since its “inception” has no plans to stop playing her beloved games, officials said.

“I’m going to grab a few more games on my way home and hopefully win another top prize,” she said in the release.

St. Mary’s County is about a 100-mile drive south of Baltimore.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
