Lottery player thought he was going to ‘fall over’ when he saw huge Michigan prize
A 36-year-old took a roundabout approach to finding out if his Michigan lottery ticket was a big winner.
The man bought the ticket at a BP convenience store in Farmington Hills, scratched off the bar code and scanned it, he told Michigan lottery officials.
“I got a message to file a claim at the Lottery office, so I finished scratching it off when I got home,” he told officials in a Nov. 13 news release.
When he scratched the remainder of his $50 ticket, he learned he had won $6 million.
“I’m going to fall over!” he said when he saw the prize. “Winning this amount of money is such a blessing.”
The winner will take home his prize in a $4.1 million lump sum, officials said. He plans to put his winnings toward buying a home and starting a business.
The man won the top prize of the $300,000,000 Extraordinaire game, officials said. Two more $6 million prizes remain.
Farmington Hills is about a 20-mile drive northwest from downtown Detroit.
