A Maryland mom won a top prize on a scratch-off game recommended to her by her daughter, according to lottery officials.

The Edgewood woman said she and her daughter stopped for Dunkin’ on the way home from visiting one of her other children in the hospital and decided to buy some scratch-off tickets at a convenience store, according to a Nov. 14 news release from the Maryland Lottery.

“My daughter saw the scratch-offs and urged me to get one,” the winner told lottery officials.

After her daughter suggested the “Game of Thrones” ticket, the woman purchased two and scratched only the prize boxes, according to the lottery.

She scanned her second ticket and got a message that said “Congratulations, you’ve won $50,000,” lottery officials said.

“I turned to my daughter and said, ‘Did we really just win this?’” the woman told officials.

The winner said she did not immediately share her news with the rest of her family, instead waiting until she claimed her prize to surprise them.

The woman told lottery officials “the winnings will go toward medical bills, household needs and the holidays.”

Edgewood is about a 25-mile drive northeast from Baltimore.
