A lucky gambler is ringing in the new year with a massive jackpot prize from a Las Vegas casino.

The anonymous player sat at a Dragon Cash slot machine Jan. 1 at the Suncoast Hotel and Casino, Boyd Gaming said in a Jan. 6 news release.

The Vegas local bet $5 just before 5 a.m., hit spin and watched as the symbols flashed across the screen.

Then a jackpot message appeared saying the visitor had won $106,437.

Suncoast Hotel and Casino is about a 10-mile drive northwest from the Las Vegas Strip.

Other gamblers also got lucky at casinos on New Year’s Day.

A man bet $75 on a Lightning Link slot machine at the Rampart Casino in Vegas and won over $113,000, McClatchy News reported.

A Northern California player won $250,650 at a Buffalo Link slot machine.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
