Woman found dead along interstate was run down by her own minivan, Georgia cops say
A 25-year-old woman found dead along a North Georgia interstate was run down by her own vehicle — and no one was in the driver’s seat, state troopers say.
The body was discovered just before 8:30 a.m. Sunday, March 30, in Resaca, a town about a 75-mile drive northwest from Atlanta, investigators say. The woman’s identity has not been released.
“A truck driver reported finding a body near an empty minivan on the Interstate 75 northbound 320 entrance ramp,” the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office said in a March 30 news release. “The victim, who was determined to not be a local resident, exhibited evidence of having been run over by an automobile.”
A Honda Odyssey minivan was found “a short distance away ... lodged against the guardrail.” The engine was running and van was still in gear, the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators say a member of the victim’s family confirmed the van had “been in the victim’s possession.”
Georgia State Police say an investigation has revealed the driver stopped her minivan on the right shoulder “for an unknown reason.”
“The driver exited their vehicle without putting it in park,” state police said in an email to McClatchy News. “The driver was subsequently run over by her own vehicle and succumbed to her injuries.”
Investigators say there is no evidence “of foul play or that any other person was involved.”
Details of when the incident occurred were not released.
