Quirky cats found in rough shape form a bond. The two ‘goofballs’ need a home
Two cats found in rough shape formed a strong bond — and now, the “goofballs” need a new home.
A North Carolina shelter hopes feline friends Elizabeth and Kay are adopted together.
“To our delight they found comfort with each other,” Darci VanderSlik, director of communications for the shelter, told McClatchy News in a May 21 email. “If one [cat] walks away, the other is right behind her. They love to lounge together and have cute little quirks (like Elizabeth’s tongue hanging out), and Kay’s obsession with only observing wand toys (but deciding not to interact with them).”
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Wake County said the cats are waiting for a second chance after they were transferred from another Raleigh-area facility.
“Elizabeth and Kay were found waddling the streets together as strays, begging strangers for head pets and sticking tongues out at everyone they met,” the SPCA wrote in a Facebook post. “But their unique intro method isn’t the only interesting thing about this bonded pair of senior ladies.”
After their rescue, the two have become known as “charming,” goofy cats who love to be scratched on their chins.
“Elizabeth and Kay are masters at climbing the shelves in our communal cat room, only rarely tripping over their own feet,” the shelter wrote. “It only takes them about 5 minutes of licking the outside of a treat pouch before realizing they aren’t actually reaching any of the treats within. While most cats chase feather wands, they become hypnotized and fall asleep.”
Elizabeth, believed to be 15 years old, arrived at the shelter matted and had “no visible teeth! While this may play a part in how comfortable she may be with keeping her tongue in her mouth, she prefers to let it stick out. Though she can (and does) keep her tongue tucked in her mouth occasionally. We think it adds to her character,” VanderSlik wrote.
Meanwhile, her roughly 12-year-old buddy Kay also arrived with tooth problems and received dental care.
As of May 21, Elizabeth and Kay were up for adoption. Details about the shelter’s adoption process can be found at spcawake.org.
“These two cats are absolutely adorable together,” VanderSlik wrote in a separate email. “We hope to find them a home together as well.”
