Man inspired by friend’s lottery win buys tickets. He ‘couldn’t believe’ prize
When a Maryland man’s friend won a couple thousand dollars on a lottery ticket, he took note.
“Growing up in Baltimore, I remember everyone playing the Lottery, it was just a part of the culture,” the man told Maryland Lottery officials in a June 3 news release.
With his friend’s lottery win at the forefront of his mind, the man said he wanted to “give it a try and see what happens.”
He bought a handful of lottery tickets at a Baltimore convenience store “after finishing a long work shift,” lottery officials said.
As he scratched his tickets at the store, he found two winners: One ticket scored him a $5 prize, while the other’s prize “stunned him,” lottery officials said.
“His decision paid off in a big way” as the player won $100,000 on a $10 Ice ticket, lottery officials said.
“I couldn’t believe it,” the winner told lottery officials. “I rushed home right away to tell my wife and mother.”
The man told lottery officials he and his wife plan to spend his winnings “paying bills and setting up a college fund for their son.”
