Lottery player crosses state lines to buy ticket. Now, he plans to help his kids
A trip across the Massachusetts state line ended up changing a New Hampshire man’s life.
Albert Boumel Jr., a Derry resident, picked up a Massachusetts State Lottery’s “Billion Dollar Extravaganza” instant ticket for $50 at a gas station in Tewksbury and found himself the holder of a $2 million prize, a June 30 news release said.
Boumel Jr. went with the one-time payment option and received $1.3 million (before taxes). He said that money will go toward helping his children, upgrading his truck and taking a vacation, the release noted.
The “Billion Dollar Extravaganza” is a scratch-off ticket that allows players to win up to $25 million. According to the Massachusetts Lottery, the odds of winning the $2 million prize is 1 in 6 million.
The ticket was purchased at a Petroil, the release said.
Tewksbury is about a 25-mile drive northwest from Boston.
