A persistent dog at an Indiana shelter is on the lookout for a patient and loving home that can accommodate her special needs — and love her in a big way.

Meet Chyna, a sweet pup with a happy disposition that doesn’t let health obstacles keep her down for too long.

“It’s hard to be different. Chyna knows that better than most. Her steps wobble, some days are harder than others, and the world doesn’t always make space for her,” the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Fishers said in a Facebook video.

“But she keeps trying, keeps loving, keeps showing up with a heart bigger than most.”

The pit bull terrier did have a family before coming to the shelter, but medical expenses started to pile up and they could no longer afford to keep her, her pet profile says.

Based on her symptoms, Chyna may suffer from Wobbler Syndrome, a disease that affects a large dog’s spine.

“At 6 years old, Chyna has a rare neurological condition that affects her balance and coordination. There’s no cure, but with patience, soft spots to rest, and a calm home, Chyna can still have a full and joyful life,” the shelter said.

Despite this, she doesn’t let her challenges stop her from living her life to the fullest, and love all around her.

“She’s housebroken, crate trained, gets along with other animals, passed her cat test, and lights up with every bit of attention she gets. She loves short walks, knows ‘sit’ and ‘paw,’ and adores gentle companionship,” the shelter noted.

Chyna would be a welcome addition to any home where love is a key component.

“Chyna doesn’t need a perfect home. She needs a home that sees her heart, that will celebrate her courage, and give her the care and comfort she deserves. Loving Chyna means loving someone who has fought silently through challenges, who has so much love to give in return,” the shelter added.

Fishers is about a 20-mile drive northeast from downtown Indianapolis.
