Despite being a dog who loves people and other animals, a pup in Texas cannot catch a break when it comes to adoption.

Meet Kanga, a three-legged dog who has been waiting years for a home, according to an animal shelter in Austin.

The mixed-breed pup recently participated in Superpowers of the Underdogs— an adoption event that focuses on dogs with disabilities at Austin Pets Alive, the shelter said in an Oct. 18 Facebook post. For the sweet boy, this event wasn’t his first rodeo.

Or even his second.

“Can you believe this is Kanga’s fourth underdog event? We can’t either! Kanga was part of the original super crew in 2021 when he still had four legs, but was limping around on one he couldn’t feel,” the shelter said in an Oct. 18 Instagram post.

Austin Pets Alive said in a profile for Kanga that he first came to the shelter in 2021 after he was shot in the spine.

“Upon intake, we discovered bullet fragments in his abdomen and back, which was causing nerve pain in his bad leg,” the shelter said in the Facebook post. “Amputation increased his quality of life, and he was adopted—unfortunately, his adopter’s life circumstances changed and Kanga returned to APA.”

Kanga has had a break since returning to the shelter — he’s been living comfortably in foster care.

“He’s a lover—of dogs, cats, and kids—and is a quiet companion. His injury left him unable to control his potty habits, which is easily managed with frequent bathroom breaks and a belly band,” the shelter said.

“Kanga has been waiting over 1,100 days for someone to accept him for exactly who he is.”
