UPDATE: US Marshals get their man following high-speed car chase
The U.S. Marshal Service said they captured a murder suspect wanted in a multi-state crime spree Friday afternoon in Troy, Alabama.
Raymond Pruitt was taken into custody after crashing his car into a tree following a high-speed chase in Troy, Alabama.
Thursday night, the U.S. Marshals Service released photos of Pruitt who was wanted for murder, attempted murder and 5 armed robberies committed in Alabama or Florida.
He is accused of stabbing and shooting his girlfriend on April 5 in Montgomery, Alabama, as she tried to get away from him. He also has been identified as the prime suspect in a series of armed robberies in Montgomery, Ozark, Troy and Prattville, Alabama and the shooting death of a store clerk during an armed robbery April 26 in Pensacola, Florida.
Federal agents were tipped to Pruitt’s location on Friday. When Troy Police tried to take him into custody, he allegedly fled the scene.
His efforts to elude capture ended on Highway 87 when he crashed into a tree. Pruitt did not suffer life-threatening injuries, the Marshal Service said.
