Polls open Tuesday for SC State House primaries in Spartanburg

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday for Republican and Democratic primaries for the S.C. House District 31 seat.

Six candidates — four Democrats, two Republicans — are running for the seat, formerly held by Rep. Harold Mitchell, who resigned in May citing health issues.

The Democrats are Spartanburg City Councilman Jerome Rice, Spartanburg City Councilwoman Rosalyn Henderson Myers, Angela Geter and attorney Mo Abusaft. The Republicans are Michael Fowler and Richard Gosnell.

If needed, a primary runoff would be held Aug. 8.

The candidates who earn their party’s primary nomination will advance to face each other in the special election on Sept. 26.
