SC Gov. McMaster raises $1 million more for 2018 bid to keep his job
S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster raised more than a million dollars in the final three months of 2017, outperforming his chief Republican rival, Mount Pleasant attorney Catherine Templeton, in the cash race for governor.
McMaster took in $1,006,345 from October through December, bringing the total he has raised to about $3.3 million. His campaign, which got a big boost from President Donald Trump who headlined a fundraiser for the governor in October, spent $297,051 in the quarter.
McMaster finished the year with close to $2.6 million to spend. He raised 73 percent of his money in the quarter from S.C. donors.
Templeton, the next leading GOP candidate in terms of fundraising, raised $721,000 in the same period, finishing with $2.3 million on hand. Seventy percent of Templeton’s contributions were in state.
