Cunningham rakes in $862K in second quarter fundraising for SC-1 race
Democratic U.S. Rep. Joe Cunningham brought in more than $862,000 during the second quarter of the year in his bid to hold on to the state’s coastal congressional district, his campaign reported.
The fundraising quarter brings his total to nearly $4.4 million for this election cycle and his cash on hand to $3 million. The campaign touted how no money in the second quarter of the year came from political action committees.
Cunningham raised $2.3 million in the 2018 cycle when he won the Lowcountry seat that previously had been held by Republicans since the 1980s.
“From being ranked the most bipartisan freshman in the House of Representatives to passing a bill to ban offshore drilling, Joe has kept his promises again and again, so it’s no wonder voters across the Lowcountry are working so hard to keep him on the job,” said Cunningham campaign manager Allie Watters.
Cunningham’s Republican challenger in November, State Rep. Nancy Mace, of Daniel Island, has yet to report her second quarter fundraising numbers. However, as of May 20, Mace had brought in $1.3 million during the cycle and had more than $561,000 cash on hand, according to Federal Elections Commission records. The deadline to report second quarter fundraising is July 15.
Both Cunningham and Mace will need a lot of cash to compete. Republicans are looking to retake the seat, which has been rated as a toss-up district by the Cook Political Report.
