President Trump returns Monday to SC during week of Republican National Convention
President Donald Trump is scheduled to return to South Carolina on Monday as the Republican National Convention kicks off in Charlotte where Trump will be renominated.
A White House advisory said Marine One will fly to an aircraft hangar at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport in Greer.
An updated advisory said the president will land at GSP airport, then depart 10 minutes later by Air Force One at 2:55 p.m.
Trump is expected to fly into Charlotte at 11:45 a.m. Monday, McClatchyDC reported, and he is expected to appear at the convention, reports said. Though Trump is expected to make an appearance in Charlotte — the RNC host city, where the entire convention was supposed to be held — the president will deliver his nomination acceptance speech from the White House on Thursday.
South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster will chair the state’s six-person delegation in Charlotte next week.
McMaster told The State Tuesday he’s not scheduled to speak, though reports said former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and Gov. Nikki Haley and U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, R-North Charleston, are among those scheduled to speak next week.
“I think the president will continue to say he wants to keep America strong, he’s demonstrated that,” McMaster said. “The world is a dangerous place. He’s stood up to tyrants, stood up to people not doing their share. He’s for business and he wants people to make money and be able to keep it and spend it on their families. I think he’s done an excellent job.”
