Senator Graham to address Citadel cadets on 9/11 anniversary

U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham R-Seneca, is scheduled to address cadets at the Citadel on Friday, the 19th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Many of the freshman enrolled at The Citadel this year were born in 2001, the year the attacks occurred, Graham’s office said.

In the Sept. 11 attacks killed nearly 3,000 people, 19 men hijacked four airplanes and crashed them into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The terrorist attacks, carried out by al-Qaida, led to wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Graham, who served in the Air Force as an attorney, had short-term duties in both countries during those military operations.

Graham’s Senate office said the three-term senator is expected to discuss his remarks his recollections of the day, where the country is now since that day, as well as the need to continue protecting the country so attacks never happen again.

While speaking at the military college, Graham also may discuss those working to prevent another 9/11 as well as those who have died since the terrorist attack, his office said.
