Date set for special election to fill Pinckney seat

The Beaufort County Board of Voter Registration and Elections on Friday set primary and special election dates to fill the state Senate District 46 seat held by the late Clementa Pinckney.

The primary is set for Tuesday, Sept. 1. If a runoff is needed, it will be held Tuesday, Sept. 15.

The special election will be held Tuesday, Oct. 20.

The candidate filing period opens at noon Friday and closes at noon July 13.

The filing form -- known as the Statement of Intention of Candidacy & Party Pledge form -- is available in the "Candidate Information" section of scVOTES.org and at the county voter registration and elections office at 15 John Galt Road in Beaufort.
