Should South Carolina legalize betting on horse racing? Take our poll

Two South Caroina legislators are pushing a proposal to allow horse race betting in the state, through phone apps.

State Sen. Katrina Shealy, R-Lexington, and state Rep. Russell Ott, D-Calhoun, want to allow advanced deposit wagering, on sites like Twinspires, where people can bet on horse races across the country.

Taxes on wagers and fees on operators would pay for grants to help the $1.9 billion equine industry in the state.

“I’m not saying lets open up a big horse race track and have live gambling,” Shealy said, “but people are already doing it and the state of South Carolina is just not getting money for it.”

Do you think South Carolina should legalize horse race betting? Share your thoughts in our poll below.
