Former VP Mike Pence returning to SC for Upstate lecture. Here’s when, where and why
Mike Pence will return to South Carolina Tuesday to participate in a college lecture series focusing on international affairs and national security.
Wofford College, an Upstate private school, announced Wednesday the former vice president will participate in its Hipp Lecture Series on International Affairs and National Security.
The trip to Spartanburg County is among a handful the former vice president, and possible 2024 Republican presidential hopeful, has made to a state early in the presidential nominating calendar.
Since leaving office, Pence spoke at the Palmetto Family Council dinner in 2021 and at Columbia International University’s commencement ceremony earlier this year. In May, he spoke at the Carolina Pregnancy Center’s annual gala in Spartanburg and visited Lakewood Baptist Church in Rock Hill.
In July, Pence spoke about the overturn of Roe v. Wade during a visit to Florence.
In a statement, Van Hipp, founder of the college’s Hipp Center for National Security and Foreign Policy, said Pence served the country with distinction, noting listing his previous titles of U.S. congressman, governor and vice president.
“We are honored to have him at Wofford College and thrilled for students to have the opportunity to hear from an American statesman of this stature,” Hipp said.
