Pee Dee senator to give SC Democrats’ response to Gov. McMaster 2023 State of the State
South Carolina state Sen. Ronnie Sabb, a legislator from the Pee Dee, will deliver the Democrats’ response Wednesday night to Gov. Henry McMaster’s State of the State address.
McMaster will offer his annual assessment on the state of affairs in South Carolina before a joint assembly Wednesday, beginning at 7 p.m. Sabb’s response will air immediately following the governor’s speech.
Representing District 32, Sabb is from Williamsburg County, and was first elected to the General Assembly in 2010 as a member of the House before winning a seat in the Senate in 2014.
Sabb currently serves on the Senate’s Agriculture and Natural Resources, Judiciary, Labor, Commerce and Industry, Rules and Transportation committees.
He is an attorney, who practices in Kingstree and Lake City.
Up-and-coming Democrats have traditionally given the Democrats’ response to the governor. Last year, state Rep. Spencer Wenmore, D-Charleston, responded to McMaster. In 2021, state Sen. Mia McLeod, a Richland County Democrat who ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2022, gave the response.
