SC’s Haley to bring her presidential campaign to Lexington County. Here are the details
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley will hold a rally April 6 outside of Lexington as she campaigns for the 2024 Republican nomination for president, her campaign confirmed to The State Media Co.
The rally is a homecoming of sorts to the county where she kicked off her political career. Before being elected governor in 2010, Haley was first elected to the S.C. House in 2004, representing a Lexington County House district.
The rally is scheduled for 6 p.m. April 6 at the Grove on Augusta in Gilbert. Doors will open at 5 p.m.
The former ambassador to the United Nations during former President Donald Trump’s administration launched her 2024 campaign in February in front of a packed crowd in Charleston. Since, she has spent time in Iowa and New Hampshire, states that lead off the Republican presidential nominating contests.
The April event will be Haley’s third campaign rally in South Carolina, which holds the first-in-the-South presidential primary. Haley last held a rally in South Carolina March 13 in Myrtle Beach.
A few days before holding her Lexington County rally, Haley is slated to visit the southern border. She will hold a news conference in Eagle Pass, Texas, with U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-Texas, to discuss the border crisis.
The campaign did not say who would be joining Haley at her Gilbert event.
Since formally entering the race, Haley has polled in single digits in national polling of the GOP race. A Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday of Republican registered voters had her at 4%, trailing Trump at 47% and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former Vice President Mike Pence at 33% and 5%, respectively.
So far Haley, Trump and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy are the only major GOP candidates to announce a 2024 run for the White House.
When Haley, who touts how she has never lost an election, spoke at the Vision ‘24 conference hosted by the conservative Palmetto Family Council earlier this month, she was confident her poll numbers would improve.
“The poll numbers you see today are not going to be the poll numbers you see a year from now,” Haley said at the forum.
