Donald Trump to visit South Carolina ahead of Independence Day celebration
Former President Donald Trump, who is seeking the 2024 Republican nomination for president, will make his first visit to South Carolina since being indicted twice.
The visit will come before he city of Pickens’ Independence Day Spectacular event on Saturday, July 1, at the Pickens Amphitheater.
Trump is scheduled to speak at 1 p.m.
Gates will open at 9 a.m, with remarks beginning at 11:30 a.m., the city said on its website.
After Trump’s speech, the remainder of the event will include live music, food, bounce houses and fireworks and will run from 3 to 9 p.m.
Trump’s visit to the state that holds the First in the South Republican presidential primary comes as he leads in the polls in the state over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, who are all seeking the Republican nomination.
Trump last visited the state in January, when he unveiled his campaign leadership team in the state.
His latest visit will be to the conservative Upstate, where a large bloc of Republican primary voters live.
Trump was indicted last week in federal court on charges he held onto to classified documents from his time in the White House and refused to return them to the National Archives.
In March, Trump was indicted in New York for allegedly falsifying business records for payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to not speak about their affair.
