SC’s Haley pledges to support GOP nominee, even if it’s not her. But she added her own twist
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is pledging to support the eventual GOP nominee for president, if she doesn’t ultimately win the nomination.
Haley signed her pledge Wednesday with the Republican National Committee, a requirement in order to appear on the Aug. 23 debate stage in Milwaukee.
“Alright fellas, your turn,” Haley posted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
Former President Donald Trump has said he won’t sign the pledge. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed the pledge.
However, when Haley signed her pledge, she made one edit.
While the form says “Beat Biden,” Haley crossed out the president’s name and wrote in “President Harris.”
Haley has repeatedly said that if President Joe Biden is reelected, Harris will take over, a swipe at Biden’s age, implying he won’t complete the term as Vice President Kamala Harris waits in the wings.
However, the campaign has said Haley is not implying Biden will die during a second term.
In addition to signing the pledge, GOP candidates need to have at least 40,000 donors, with 200 in 20 or more states and have at least 1% of support in in three high-quality national polls or a mix of national polls and polls taken in early-voting states.
