The mayor of Irmo lost his job Tuesday night, while another Midlands mayor avoided the same fate, as voters in Irmo and West Columbia went to the polls on local election night.

Now that polls are closed, here’s a look at who has won or is leading among the candidates in several other Midlands races.

Irmo mayoral race

Town Councilman Bill Danielson has defeated incumbent Mayor Barry Walker with nearly 52% of the vote, compared to Walker’s 48%.

The South Carolina Election Commission showed Danielson leading Walker by 70 votes across Richland and Lexington counties.

Alt. Danielson, 67, said his focus as mayor will be to expand the Irmo police department and enhance the Irmo fire department.

Irmo Town Council

Two at-large seats on the town council are up for grabs, with five candidates vying for them.

Councilman Erik Sickinger is the only incumbent running for reelection. His colleague Kelly Busch declined to run for another term.

As of 9:45 p.m. Sickinger was leading the pack with a little more than 31% of the vote, followed by Gabriel Penfield with 24%, just ahead of Phyllis Coleman’s 21%.

West Columbia mayoral race

With nearly 70% of the vote with 9 of 11 precincts reporting as of 9:15 p.m., incumbent Mayor Tem Miles will likely continue serving as mayor of West Columbia for the next four years, leading political newcomer Melissa Sprouse Browne by nearly 40 percentage points.

District 2 City Council

Having run unopposed, incumbent Trevor Bedell will continue to represent District 2 on the city council for four more years.

District 4 City Council

With about 100% of ballots tabulated, incumbent Joseph Dickey defeated Ronnie Lindler’s with a margin of 58% to 41%.

District 6 City Council

Incumbent Jimmy Brooks defeated challenger, Madison Duncan by a margin of 75% to 25%, with 100% of the votes tabulated.

District 7 City Council (Special Election)

Following the resignation of Councilwoman Erin Porter, who moved outside of her district earlier this year, a special election was held Tuesday to fill the vacancy.

With 50% of the vote in, Sara Mattern was leading Trisha Lekovich by 10 votes.

District 8 City Council

Incumbent David Moye won 78% of the vote to defeat Pete Fisher for the District 8 seat, with 100% of votes counted.
