SC’s McMaster orders flags to fly at full staff during Trump’s inauguration
Flags at state buildings will be raised to full staff Monday in honor of President-Elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, Gov. Henry McMaster ordered. Flags will return to half staff at sunset as the country continues to honor the late President Jimmy Carter.
“As far as we can determine, no one contemplated a situation like this where you have an event, an inauguration , that must be celebrated,” McMaster told reporters. “But on the other hand, nobody thought that we’d ever have the president die within the 30-day period of the inauguration.”
McMaster also has also been a staunch Trump ally since 2016.
South Carolina joins states such as Texas, Florida, Alabama, Iowa, North Dakota and Nebraska that will raise their flags. Flags at the U.S. Capitol also will be raised to full staff on inauguration day and then lowered back to half staff.
President Joe Biden ordered flags be flown at half staff for 30 days to honor Carter, who died last month.
