SC’s Mace says 1 of 4 men she accused charged with harassment, stalking in separate case
U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace said that one of the four men she accused of taking part in sexual assaults and voyeurism was arrested Tuesday morning on multiple charges from a separate matter.
Eric Bernard Bowman, 45, was charged with harassment and stalking, Charleston County jail records show.
Bowman is one of the men Mace named in an explosive speech on the U.S. House floor in February.
Sullivan’s Island Chief of Police Glenn Meadows told The State that Bowman is the same man who Mace called a “predator,” but the charges from Tuesday’s arrest are unrelated to her allegations.
Bowman turned himself into Sullivan’s Island Police at 5 a.m. and was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center at 6:15 a.m., jail records show. He’s since been released on a $10,000 surety bond, according to court records.
Bowman is scheduled to appear in court again on May 30, Charleston County judicial records show.
In a post on X on Monday before turning himself in, Bowman said “Weaponizing the judicial system update - The lies continue.”
In the incident report released by Sullivan’s Island Police, a female complainant said an air tag was found on her vehicle in July of last year. In September, the complainant followed up with police. Sullivan’s Island Police consulted with 9th Circuit District Attorney’s office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division about the case, the report showed.
In February, the same complainant came to Sullivan’s Island Police and spoke to Meadows about incidents Mace discussed in her floor speech and expressed fears over Bowman, the report says.
Mace, who is considering a run for governor, previously said sexual assaults were filmed at Bowman’s house. SLED told The State that Tuesday’s arrest is a separate matter from the case related to Mace that the agency is investigating.
Still, Mace’s team was quick to promote Bowman’s arrest on social media.
“If you harm women and kids, you should face the full force of the law,” Mace posted on X. “Eric Bowman, one of the men featured prominently in my floor speech, arrested this morning. I hope you get everything you deserve, and more.”
Among the men who Mace also accused was her ex-fiance’ Patrick Bryant, who has denied the accusations. SLED has only confirmed an investigation into Bryant.
Mace also named Brian Musgrave in her speech. He has since sued Mace for defamation and libel in federal court.
This is not the first time Bowman has been arrested.
In October 2018, Bowman was charged with third-degree assault and battery as well as hit-and-run (with minor personal injury), jail records show. He pleaded guilty to the former charge, but was not prosecuted on the latter, according to Charleston County court records.
Bowman was also charged with assault and battery (of a high and aggravated nature) in addition to hit-and-run (with great bodily injury) in January 2020, but those charges were not prosecuted, court records show.
