One of the men accused by U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace during a House floor speech of heinous crimes against women has been charged with domestic violence stemming from a 2016 video that circulated on social media.

Eric Bowman has been charged with domestic violence in the first degree by the Sullivan’s Island Police Department. He is currently being held in the Charleston County jail pending a bond hearing. Bowman, 45, was booked at the Charleston jail at 6:22 a.m. Wednesday.

Bowman’s arrest comes days after a 2016 video surfaced allegedly of Bowman where he can be heard beating a woman.

Bowman is one of the men Mace named in an explosive speech on the U.S. House floor in February, where she accused four men of heinous crimes against woman including rape and voyeurism.

“Violent criminals belong behind bars. Eric Bowman’s arrest today is an important step toward protecting victims, holding violent criminals accountable and making our community safer,” Mace said in a statement. “We commend Sullivan’s Island Chief of Police, Glenn Meadows, for his decisive action to protect the victim and remove a violent offender from the streets of South Carolina. Sullivan’s Island is safer today than it was yesterday.”
