Coastal Carolina University’s new president will earn $320,000 a year, an amount approved Thursday by a group of lawmakers.

James J. Winebrake, who started in the role in July had his annual salary approved Thursday by the Agency Head Salary Commission, an 11-member board that includes the House Speaker, Senate president and both budget chairmen, four other lawmakers and three governor appointees.

The group also gave its a blessing for Winebrake to receive a $50,000 a year housing allowance as part of his deal. That housing allowance however needs to be approved by the State Fiscal Accountability Authority, a five-member board which includes both budget chairmen, the governor, state treasurer and comptroller-general.
