Winthrop University’s largest venue will host a candidate drawing some of the largest crowds of the Republican presidential campaign.

Donald Trump will speak at the Winthrop Coliseum at 7 p.m. on Jan. 8. Free tickets for the event are available online.

This will be the first campaign stop in the Rock Hill area for Trump, the leading GOP presidential contender according to most national and South Carolina primary polls.

The Winthrop Coliseum can seat more than 6,000 people. Earlier this month, Trump’s presidential rival Ben Carson held a town hall at the coliseum that drew 2,000 spectators.

Eight of the 13 remaining GOP candidates have already campaigned in the Rock Hill area in 2015, many of them choosing Winthrop University as their preferred venue while in town.

On Nov. 6, Winthrop also hosted a nationally televised forum with all three of the Democratic presidential candidates.

The New York real estate mogul and reality TV star has been the top Republican in national polls for months. In South Carolina, Trump had a 9-point lead among GOP voters in the latest Winthrop Poll.

Doors for the Trump event will open at 5 p.m.
