Last day to register to vote in Columbia elections

Today is the last day to register to vote in the April 6 Columbia elections.

Eligible voters must register at least 30 days prior to any election to vote in that election. Only city residents may vote.

Because it is the last day, applications must be made in person at the Richland County Voter Registration Office, 2020 Hampton St., at the corner of Hampton and Harden streets, in Columbia.

The four seats open in the election are that of mayor, a citywide council seat and two district seats.

To register, you must provide one of the following as proof of residency: driver’s license, passport, photo identification (with current address), utility bill, bank statement and a government check or other government document (with current address).

Students may register to vote where they attend college only if they can demonstrate they intend to remain in the community indefinitely or permanently.

Uncertain if you live in the city? Want to know which district you live in? Check out our election maps at thestate.com/elections.
