Biden snags endorsement from Richland County state lawmaker

Former Vice President Joe Biden is continuing to rack up South Carolina endorsements once held by U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris.

The latest comes from S.C. Sen. Darrell Jackson, a Democratic lawmaker from Richland County, according to a statement from the Biden campaign.

“Joe Biden is the best Democratic candidate to defeat Donald Trump — and that’s exactly what we need,” Jackson said in the statement. “I have seen his strength on display in the Palmetto State and I know we need to unite behind him.”

An influential legislator and pastor of the Bible Way Church on Atlas Road in Columbia, Jackson said he was looking for an experienced candidate, who does not need “on the job training.”

“Throughout the campaign, he has taken everyone’s best shot and clearly demonstrated that he has what it takes to win this primary and the general election,” Jackson said. “Joe continues to show that he has the fight, fire, and strength to make Donald Trump a one-term president, which is in the best interest of this country and the citizens I represent.”

Jackson was an early supporter of Harris, endorsing her in March 2019. He voiced support for her plan to raise teacher pay.

Jackson isn’t the first endorsement Biden picked up after Harris dropped out of the race in early December.

Last week, Biden scooped up support from political activist group the Reckoning Crew, a decades-old group of about three dozen members that knocks on doors and organizes across the Midlands.
