Biden releases new SC ad focused on Obama days before Democratic presidential primary
Former Vice President Joe Biden launched a new television and digital ad in South Carolina on Thursday with a focus on his former running mate.
The ad will run in the Columbia, Charleston, Greenville/Spartanburg and Florence/Myrtle Beach markets, according to Biden’s campaign.
The digital and television ad focuses on the passage of the Affordable Care Act — known as Obamacare — which it calls President Barack Obama’s legacy. Several of the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates have called on building upon Obamacare, as others have argued for a stronger Medicare for All option.
“Donald Trump and even some Democrats want to get rid of it. Joe Biden will never let that happen,” a voice on the ad says.
The ad also touts Biden’s relationship with Obama, showing multiple images of the pair together during the president’s two terms in the White House.
“Maybe others want to destroy Obama’s legacy, but Joe Biden will build on it,” a voice on the ad finishes.
The Biden ad comes days after a pair ads for former New York City Mayor Bloomberg reportedly left viewers confused about whether the former president endorsed the billionaire presidential candidate. Bloomberg’s advertisements focused on Obama and his relationship during both their times in office, and uses audio clips of the former president praising the former mayor for his leadership.
“At a time when Washington is divided in old ideological battles, he shows us what can be achieved when we bring people together to seek pragmatic solutions,” Obama says in the Bloomberg ad.
Bloomberg will not be on South Carolina’s Feb. 29 ballot, instead focusing his time and resources on Super Tuesday states. However, Bloomberg has received at least two endorsements in South Carolina — Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin and S.C. House Minority Leader Todd Rutherford, D-Richland.
Obama has not made an endorsement in the presidential primary race.
