Lexington County Councilman Todd Cullum was on course to win another term on the county council.

Cullum on Tuesday was leading former South Congaree Town Councilman and ex-Democratic candidate Bobby Porter by 50 percentage points in the GOP primary in District 9, which covers the area around Cayce, South Congaree and Pine Ridge.

Cullum has served on the council for 20 years and chaired the body as recently as 2021. Porter’s loss is the second in two years, as he faced current Councilman Gene “Bimbo” Jones as a Democrat for an open seat in District 5 in 2020, prior to redistricting that moved South Congaree into District 9.

Tuesday’s vote was the only competitive race this year for Lexington County Council. Cullum has no opponent in November, nor do three other candidates up for election this year.
