Election results in West Columbia. Here’s who won seats on city council.
Voters selected one new council member for the city of West Columbia after longtime council member and Mayor Pro-Tem Mickey Pringle chose not to seek re-election.
With all precincts in District 5 reporting, Phyllis Cookie Holmes won the District 5 seat in West Columbia with 62% of the vote to contender Kiaun Jaquez Moore’s 31% of the vote, according to unofficial results. Of the 116 votes cast, Holmes received 72.
The other candidate, Brad Robinson, got 6% of the vote, but told The State he had withdrawn. Since he missed the deadline to withdraw, his name still appeared on the ballot.
Three incumbents on the city’s nine-person council ran unopposed — Mike Green for District 1, George Crowe for District 3 and Sarah Mattern for District 7.
The election comes as the city is in the midst of projects intended to completely redevelop and beautify parts of the downtown. The city plans to decrease lanes and add parking to Meeting Street near State Street.
