MORNING BUZZ: S.C. State furloughs, same-sex marriage in the Senate + House is off
Buzzing today
Calling all states: The Senate Judiciary Committee will take up a series of bills, including one that would call for a convention of states to propose an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to ban same-sex marriage. The committee also will take up bills related to sex trafficking and the release of a child’s medical records without parental consent in cases of alleged abuse or neglect. (3 p.m. / Gressette 308)
Inmate reintroduction: A Senate Corrections and Penology subcommittee will take up a bill requiring private, public or nonprofit entities that reintroduce paroled prison inmates into society to give public notice of the addresses of residential facilities where the parolees will be housed and hold a public hearing about the facilities’ locations. (2 p.m. / 3rd floor conference room, S.C. Senate)
S.C. State in the Senate: The Senate could take up a House bill that would allow S.C. State University to require employees to go on furlough up to 20 work days a year for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 fiscal years. (Read more on S.C. State here.)
